Leadership… you might say it begins in the sandbox when we are kids. A leader emerges; fires everyone up to grab a shovel and pail, “you there… get some water and let’s make a castle!” From that moment, they’re transformed from kids playing with sand in their shoes to a united group determined to create something special.
As we enter into a new year, goals are set, plans are made, progress is expected and anticipated. Setting formal goals has never been easy for me, but every time I sit down and actually think them through, make my lists, set plans and track progress, my goals become reality and turn into learning opportunities.
Some of my most amazing career opportunities presented themselves when I wasn’t planning for them. But with an open heart and an open mind, I was able to picture myself in the position presented to me and actually saw myself learning what it would take to be great at that job. I never hesitated when an opportunity came my way… never got caught up in the doubts of “gosh, I have never done that before”… with confidence in my ability to learn anything that interests me, I dove in. With the right attitude, I truly believe anyone can learn anything.
Growing up in the desert since 1980, I have a deep connection to our Valley and am interested in where we grow from here. I am proud to serve as president of WLF, a dynamic nonprofit organization whose purpose is to develop and empower leaders of all ages and backgrounds through targeted educational programs, leadership training, and relationship-building opportunities. Like many organizations, WLF has evolved from an exceptional vision into an exciting reality of programs thanks to the efforts of so many dedicated women and men in this community.
