When I was presented with the opportunity to serve as Women Leaders Forum’s president, I realized that I needed to give some serious thought as to what “leadership” means to me.
I believe that leadership is for, and involves, everyone. It is an ever-evolving, interactive conversation that draws people toward becoming comfortable with the language of personal responsibility and commitment.
Leadership is also a skill that can be applied to all aspects of our lives, as we learn to expand our perspectives, set goals, and take the initiative to get to where we want to be.
Each of us has the power within us to make a difference when presented with the opportunity to lead. It is by being prepared to take that “green light” that we are able to utilize this very special skill.
Women Leaders Forum has been leading the Coachella Valley by providing these “green lights” to its members through our array of vital programs that serve high school students, professionals, and those who wish to give back to community via WLF’s philanthropic initiatives.
Recently, when I had the opportunity to meet WLF’s Young Women Ambassadors and speak with some of them individually, it struck me that WLF is truly leading this group of young women to greatness in their future. These students are leaders in their own right as many are the first in their families to go to college. Their aspirations are huge and I want to be a part of helping them meet those dreams. I hope all WLF members will join me to help these young women take advantage of the opportunities presented to them.
WLF’s professional arm, Desert Women Entrepreneurs, has also been a motivating tool for many to further their education and careers—whether they are working as an entrepreneur or within the corporate world. Every year, WLF’s annual Leadership Conference provides essential educational and motivational leadership training via a roster of renowned speakers. In addition to this year’s Leadership Conference (set for October 23, 2009), WLF is adding a quarterly Educational Series to be facilitated by member for members. This innovative educational program will offer a terrific platform in which WLF members can utilize their leadership skills by sharing their knowledge and expertise.
Without the support of our members, we would not be able to provide scholarships, fund microbanks, and host Wall Street Teens and other educational and networking events. By their generous donations, members continue to support WLF’s very important mission to empower women, and men, in our community.
I encourage all of you to take the opportunities to lead that are presented to you through Women Leaders Forum so that you can experience the difference that it makes in your life and the lives of others.
You – every single one of you – is a leader and you continue to inspire me daily in my role as president of this very worthwhile organization.
