February 2010 WLF Presents Mixer
Sixty WLF members and guests were in attendance for a fantastic workshop on February 11, 2010 - the second in a series from social media whiz Marty Fahncke.
The overall focus of the event was to help those in attendance fully understanding and maximize the use of online social media networks. One of Marty’s main points was that you need to choose the online social networking tool for your business , which fits your clients rather than your comfort zone.
LinkedIn and Facebook appear to be the two most popular programs among the social networks. During his presentation, Marty cautioned audience members to not use their Facebook personal profiles for business; but rather, to create a Facebook fan page specifically for business.
Marty also encouraged attendees to take advantage of Facebook advertising this year, stating that after 2010, the cost of Facebook advertising will likely escalate. LinkedIn is a social network designed primarily for business. Marty encouraged those in attendance to updates their profiles, import their e-mail addresses, and invite only those colleagues and friends already on the LinkedIn network. Moreover, he recommended developing marketing strategies on LinkedIn. During the workshop, he also used a fun, interactive exercise: he had us quickly meet six new people to get their business cards and promise to “connect” via LinkedIn within the next few days. He ended the evening with a futuristic warning that Going Mobile with advertising will be the “next big thing.”
Marty speaks to audiences across the country on topics related to internet marketing, social media, affiliate marketing, direct response television and more. Marty also shares his knowledge as an Advisory Board member and feature writer for Electronic Retailer and Online Strategies magazines. He also shares his thoughts on the popular blog "My Perspective," www.martyfahncke.com.
